Director Kappeler returns to the subject of his past film “Die Ballade des Schreiben” (1995), about poet Gerhard Meier. Now that documentary is viewed as an essential introduction into the poet’s work, a man who became a writer after 33 years working in a factory. Two years after the film Gehard Meier’s wife Dorli died, and in 2005 the now 88-year-old Meier published “Ob die Granatbäume blühen”, possibly his most moving work so far. Kappeler’s new documentary expands the themes in his previous one with “Das Wolkenschattenboot”.
